Sashiko is a Japanese textile folk-art that had its origins in the Edo period in Japan and has evolved over centuries from a frugal necessity into the decorative art so cherished today. The word Sashiko literally means ’little stabs’, a reference to the simple running stitch employed in repeating or interlocking patterns. This shines through in our Studio Coat made with this 2-ply indigo fabric that is bound together with larger gauge yarns in a diamond pattern creating a beautifully textured fabric. This fabric will break in much like a pair of denim as it forms to your body, developing a character all it's own. This is a great outerwear piece for when you don't know what the day will bring. There is something effortless about the style, functionality and the draw of grabbing it before you head out the door. That is the Studio Coat. Made in Seattle.
